Sunny Cover Brings Coffee Culture to Peekskill
The Peekskill Coffee House's Sunny Cover wanted a place to meet people over a cup of coffee, so she created that place herself.
Earlier this week we asked you who your favorite local business owner was as part of our “Question of the Day” series and promised a feature on the winner. We had three winners – Sunny Cover, Patty Villanova and Ted Bitter. So here is the first of three features on some of your favorite business owners. Thanks for voting! Check back next week for the next feature.

Sunny Cover is a Lincoln, Nebraska native but moved to Peekskill from San Francisco several years ago and immediately noticed a lack of coffee places.
“I was surprised that there was no place to get a decent cup of coffee locally. In San Francisco you walk out of your door and have at least three cafes to choose from,” Cover said.

She started discussing this with a neighbor and ideas started to roll from there.
In 2003, Cover opened the Peekskill Coffee House and has seen success since. The place serves a good cup of joe, as well as espresso, latte, mocha, cappuccino, chai, tea, smoothies, frappes, and fresh roasted 100% Arabica coffee beans for customers to take home with them. In addition, PCH serves delicious breakfast and lunch paninis, fresh pastries delivered daily from Bread Alone Bakery, soup from Hale & Hearty, salads, oatmeal and granola. Customers flock to the Coffee House for the food, coffee, tea and atmosphere, as well as free live entertainment every weekend and free Wi-Fi (you just ask for a Wi-Fi card at the register).
Here is a brief Question and Answer with the business owner:
PATCH: What inspired you in setting up your place?
COVER: The space itself along with the green chair and couch in the center of the shop. My good friend found them on big trash night! I love vintage objects, thrift stores, estate sales and junk shops so searching for the decor was super fun.
PATCH: What do you like about your customers?
My customers are awesome! They are friendly, funny, caring and generous.
PATCH: What is the best thing about Peekskill?
Its diversity.
PATCH: In what way is your store an extension of your personality?
COVER: I love having parties, people over to visit and hang out...and a really great cup of coffee.
PATCH: What is the best deal you have to offer right now?
COVER: Our new breakfast and lunch Panini! All breakfast paninis are baked in the oven; seasoned with garlic, onion, rosemary & fontina cheese, pressed in a fresh ciabatta roll and come with a choice of ham, hot sopressata or without meat!
