Tasty Food Classes All August At Peter Kelly Teaching Kitchen

Dumplings, tempting kids' meals, seasonal 5-ingredient dinners; preserving summer's bounty: you'll find more than one class to take.

CORTLANDT, NY — NewYork-Presbyterian's series of events during the month of August includes classes at Hudson Valley Hospital that will make your mouth water. And some are free!

All are at the hospital’s Chef Peter X. Kelly Teaching Kitchen, 1992 Crompond Road in Cortlandt.A leader of the farm-to-table movement in the Hudson Valley, Kelly owns local restaurants including Xaviar's at Piermont, the Freelance Cafe and Wine Bar in Piermont, Restaurant X and the Bully Boy Bar in Congers, and X2O Xaviars on the Hudson in Yonkers. In 2007, he bested celebrity chef Bobby Flay in a Food Networks Iron Chef America competion.

  • Physician in the Kitchen: Balanced Nutrition for Children’s Health. Friday, August 9 | Noon to 1:30 PM. Join Dr. Eric Mier, Pediatrics, NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley, for a conversation about what nutrients children need and in what quantities to support their health. We will also discuss food allergies and tips for dining out. Attendees will learn how to prepare a seasonal, nutrient-dense, kid-friendly meal. Free.   • Bariatric Cooking. Wednesday, August 14 | 5:30 to 7:00 PM. (This event takes the place of this month’s Bariatric Support Group.). Our cooking demonstration, featuring Ashley Fleischhauer, RN, Bariatric Coordinator, is a great opportunity to test new recipes, suitable for recent patients of bariatric surgery. Founded in 1889 by the Helping Hand Association, NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, located in Cortlandt Manor, New York, serves residents of the Hudson Valley and Westchester County.
