'Town Hall' Forum On Peekskill School Renovations Is Tuesday

PEEKSKILL, NY — Peekskill residents will have a chance Tuesday to learn more about the Board of Education's plan for district-wide school improvements. Voters must approve the plan to borrow up to $11 million for the projects, which have been organized so that the cost will not lead to a tax increase, district officials said.

The information session will include a presentation plus time for questions. It starts at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Peekskill High School.

On the ballot Oct. 7 are two propositions. The first covers repairs and renovations at all five schools. The second is a property purchase to move the district's Operation and Maintenance Department, Central Registration, Transportation Department and Parent Resource Center out of Peekskill High School, where the space is needed for math, science and technology instruction.

Proposition #1: PHASE 1, $5,850,000

High School

• Electrical distribution – replace panels & feeders in custodial closets
• Reconstruct Torpy Field, track, bleachers
• New concession building

Middle School

• Upgrade Pool Chemical Feed System

Oakside

• Backflow Preventer & Replace Valves at Water Service
• Replace UV at 13 Classrooms with AC

Woodside

• Backflow Preventer & Replace Valves at Water Service
• Basement Ventilation & Moisture Control
• Replace UV’s at 23 Classrooms with AC

Uriah Hill

• Ventilation for Lower Level Cafeteria

Proposition #1: Phase 2, $4,750,000
High School

• New valves and back-flow preventer for water service
• Replace stairway window walls and exterior doors
• Replace exterior steel doors and frames
• Renovate the Technology and Art
• Classrooms – STEAM Innovation Center
• Replace Master Clock

Hillcrest

• Renovate the Technology Classrooms
• STEAM Exploration Lab
• Replace UV’s at 13 Classrooms with AC

Uriah Hill

• Replace Gutters and Downspouts
• Replace Portions of Roof

Proposition #2
Buy and renovate 400 South Division St. at a total cost not to exceed $400,000.
