Victim in Deadly Peekskill Apartment Fire ID'd
The Red Cross is working with all the families displaced by the Monday morning conflagration.

PEEKSKILL, NY — The woman who died in a Monday morning fire in a small multi-family dwelling on Diven Street in Peekskill has been identified as Elizabeth Birmingham, 52.
Red Cross volunteers are continuing to work with all four families who were displaced — 10 adults and one child — providing needed support along with needed assistance, Caroline Sherwin said Tuesday.
"Our thoughts go out to her family and friends, and the Peekskill community," Sherwin said. "We've been working closely with our agencies, helping to emotionally support her child. Peekskill's a tight-knit community, it has really been rallying around."

Sherwin praised the Peekskill Office of Emergency Management for quickly setting up an emergency reception area at the Salvation Army for the displaced families. " They acted so fast to get the families out of the cold and away from the fire," she said. "They are just an amazing group of people."
The fire apparently started on the first floor and then spread to the second and third floors, the Peekskill Daily Voice reported.
