Dr. Paul R. Edelman, 73, a longtime Peekskill-Yorktown resident, died April 5, 2014. Born on December 2, 1940, son of the late Alfred and & Dorothy (nee Bernstein) Edelman.
He served in the United States Army from 1966-1968. Paul was a graduate of the New England College of Optometry. He was a member of the American Optometric Association; and also was on the SUNY College of Optometry College Council. Paul was a local optometrist and ran his own practice, Dr. Paul R. Edelman & Associates, for over-40 years in the Peekskill and Yorktown area.
He was very well known in and around the City of Peekskill and surrounding areas. Paul was an active member and past-president of the Peekskill Lions Club. He was also a proud member of the Peekskill Fire Patrol Rescue #134 for 27 years; serving as past-President and present vice-President, and also as chaplain; respectfully known there as “Doc”.
Paul loved life; above all he enjoyed gardening and the beach especially in Long Beach, NY.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Joan (nee Malerba) Edelman; and his 3 sons, Andrew (Paula Finnerty) Edelman, Barry (Christine Kelly-) Edelman and Robert Edelman; and also his 2 grandchildren, Van and Drew Edelman. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Goldstein and his nephew, Todd Goldstein. And his beloved friends & patients.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 9th from 7-9pm and Thursday, April 10th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, Peekskill. A Funeral Service will be held 10am, Friday, April 11th at the Temple Beth Am, 203 Church Pl., Yorktown Heights, followed by interment in the Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley.
