Vote Tuesday: Hen Hud, Lakeland, Peekskill Board and Budget Votes

Hendrick Hudson also has the library budget up for approval by residents.

CORTLANDT, NY — New York residents are asked to vote on their local school district’s budget and board of education May 16. In some cases, library board and budget votes are also taking place. Here’s info on three neighboring school districts: Hendrick Hudson, Lakeland and Peekskill.

Hendrick Hudson

The spending plan for the Hendrick Hudson school district is $79,623,118 for 2017-18, and that's a big jump over the current budget, 4.9 percent. But the tax levy is only planned to rise 2.4 percent. The elephant in the room for Hen Hud is the planned closure of Indian Point, which will decimate the property tax base.

District officials are also asking voters to approve a proposition to spend up to $307,000 to replace aging buses, vehicles and equipment.
