By Bob Foley, Program Director, Van Cortlandtville Historical Society
Westfield Farm and Tower and the Field Family of Mohegan Lake will be the topic of a talk by Historian Terence Ducey of Yorktown on Saturday, May 21st, at 2 p.m., at The Little Red Schoolhouse, 297 Locust Avenue, Cortlandt Manor. Sponsored by the Van Cortlandtville Historical Society, the event is open free to the public.
Using a PowerPoint program of vintage pictures, Mr. Ducey will tell the story of the fascinating family history of William Bradhurst Osgood Field and his past properties in Mohegan Lake dating back to 1850. One of the more recognizable landmarks in the area---the tall tower on Strawberry Road at Lexington Avenue---will be part of the picture program and Mr. Ducey will explain its origin.

In discussing the background of the many homes and buildings, including the Mansion and Tower, he will point out the historical significance of the Westfield Farm which encompassed almost 100 acres between Strawberry Road and Route 6 (East Main Street), mostly along Lexington Avenue in Mohegan. And, he will note the impact on the community of the Field family, who first settled in the Yorktown area in the mid-1700s.
A resident of Mohegan Lake with his family, Mr. Ducey is a longtime member of the Yorktown Historical Society, where he once served on the Board and was the Society's Landmarks Commissioner.
