Why did the Pipeline Cross the Road?

Part of Croton Avenue in Cortlandt will close briefly Thursday as part of the Algonquin Pipeline expansion project.
The purpose of the closure is to allow a prefabricated section of pipeline to be moved from the west side of Croton Avenue to the east side, said Allyn DeVars of Spectra Energy. As soon as that's done, the road will reopen.

The work will happen inside a timeframe from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Yorktown town officials sent residents a notice about the detour, which they said will take vehicles east on Rte. 202 to Old Crompond Road east, to Catherine Street, to Catherine Street south, then right onto Jacob Road, and back onto Croton Avenue.

They warn motorists to expect additional traffic and slight delays.
"The detour is clearly marked," said Jeff Coleman, the director of Cortlandt's highway department.
