Each year, August 21 is bookmarked as National Senior Citizens Day in the U.S. whereby we are recognizing approximately more than 61 million Americans, or eighteen percent of the total population 65 years and over, according to World Data in 2026. It has been a boom like no other as projected due to the baby boomers who were born between 1946 and 1964.

It's not only the influx population who are now seniors in 2026 commonly, but with major advances in medicine is also a big "boom" factor well. We are talking about the treatment of the most common diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, and various early-detectable cancers. Additionally, lifestyle changes of eating healthier and exercising in order to avoid diabetes, are definitely major factors. By 2060, we can witness that there could be almost 95 million Americans who will be seniors, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Only in a few years, the Generation X community will cross over the seniors' threshold as well.

Nearly 2,200 seniors from all over Westchester County came to Glen Island Park to dance and have a great time.

Earlier this week, Westchester County had their annual Senior Dance Party at beautiful Glen Island Park next door in New Rochelle and turnout was fantastic. The County, which has nearly 167,000 seniors, continues to do a top-job with honoring those 65 and over and this party included seniors from Peekskill to Yonkers, from Tarrytown to Pelham, they came in droves. What's more is that County Executive Kenneth Jenkins honored Westchester's Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services, Mae Carpenter, who will be retiring this year.
