Eight A-Capella Groups Performed Student-Arranged Song Selections Including Broadway Hit from "Hamilton"
Eight student-run a-cappella groups from Plainview-Old Bethpage School District’s John F. Kennedy High School recently performed three songs each using nothing but their voices to make the music during the school’s “Night of A-Cappella.” Each song on the set list was chosen, arranged and taught by student-members. The performing groups included the Acafellas, B Sharps, Chock Full of Notes, Drastic Measures, Noteworthy, On a High Note, Rolling Tones and Under A Rest. Fellow classmates, teachers, school administrators and members of the community sang and clapped along to the music during the two shows.
The all-male group, the B Sharps, even performed the song, “Washington On Your Side,” from the hit Broadway musical Hamilton. The song was particularly hard to arrange and perform as it requires tight harmonies, strong vocal singing and very intricate rapping. As part of the District’s a-cappella tradition, alumni also joined their former groups to perform an additional song during the second performance of the evening.
