PLAINVIEW, NY — Howard B. Mattlin Middle School students and staff were honored for their swift response in saving a 6th-grade student's life in March.
The school's Cardiac Emergency Response Team (CERT) jumped into action when the student suffered cardiac arrest while in class. School nurses and two teachers administered lifesaving measures, while a staff member contacted emergency services.
The school periodically has sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) drills, which offer guidelines on how to handle cardiac arrest.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Board of Education honored the heroic group of students and staff members in a ceremony.
