PLAINVIEW, NY — Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School Class of 2026 celebrated their commencement with a near-perfect graduation rate and earned millions in scholarships. earning millions in scholarships.
The graduating seniors had a 99.75 percent graduation rate, earned more than $17 million in scholarships, and $95,000 in community awards.
Mingshen Shi was the valedictorian and said that life does not come with a "guaranteed ticket to success."
"Not everything can follow expectations or be predictable, but uncertainty is not always a bad thing," Shi said.
Soha Jhaveri, the salutatorian, also spoke about the four years and the future ahead.
"Think about the obstacles you've had to overcome, the determination you’ve had to display, and the mountains you've conquered," Jhaveri said.
Principal Dr. Heather Dvorak highlighted the Class of 2026's theme, "United We Soar," and recognized the friendships, mentors, and family members who helped support students throughout their academic journey.
Throughout the ceremony, speakers reflected on the importance of resilience, growth, and community, emphasizing that success is often shaped by both individual effort and the support of those around us.
