Ladybugs Ready To Take Flight At Plainview Library Release Party Tonight

PLAINVIEW/OLD BETHPAGE, NY — The Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library will be hosting a Ladybug Release Party on Wednesday evening.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. on Aug. 9 in the Alma Craib Memorial Garden.

After receiving ladybug larvae on July 27, families watched, both in person and through the ladybug livestream, as the little critters grew. Now, the library is inviting families for an evening of ladybug-related activities and to watch the ladybugs venture into the world.

The library said the larvae were not taken from the wild and were instead obtained through an educational supplier specifically for classroom and library programs. The supplier was the same one used for the library's caterpillar program in early June.

These tiny transformer programs give families a firsthand look at nature and metamorphosis, and the library said it hopes to inspire future conservationists
