The Food and Nutrition Department at wants to encourage our neighbors, employees and community to eat healthy meals. To that end, it is conducting a health "Farmer's Market" in the lobby of the hospital Thursday.
“The key is to break down the barriers that make healthy eating difficult,” said Margaret Gurlides, assistant director of Food and Nutrition. “By partnering with our local vendors and farms, we’re able to make healthy options readily accessible and affordable, while at the same time supporting local agriculture and reducing the environmental impact of food transport. It’s truly a win-win situation for everyone involved.”
The Farmers Market is held in the lobby right as you enter the main entrance of the hospital. It is open to all employees and visitors.

“For the spring and summer months of 2011, we hope run the market a few times a season to help maximize, advertise and support our local farmers” says Eric Sieden, the director of Food and Nutrition at Plainview Hospital. “Long Island grows some awesome produce and it should be showcased for all of us to enjoy.”
