Plainview-Old Bethpage, N.Y. — The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District is proud to announce five students at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School have been recognized as semifinalists in the 65th National Merit Scholarship competition. The students—Elizabeth Korn, Gregory Kies, Ziho Kim, Cameron Robinson, and Kristen Dong—are among just 16,000 students in the nation being considered for approximately 7,600 awards worth a total of more than $31 million. Approximately 90 percent of students recognized as semifinalists are expected to achieve finalist standing.

“We are incredibly proud of Elizabeth, Gregory, Ziho, Cameron, and Kristen for their pursuit of excellence,” said Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Superintendent Dr. Lorna Lewis. “We are thrilled to celebrate this exciting achievement with them.”

The National Merit Scholarship Program was established in 1955 as a not-for-profit organization to provide educational opportunities for academically talented high school students throughout the nation. The National Merit Scholarship Committee has allocated over 423,000 scholarships valued at nearly $1.7 billion to more than three million students nationwide.
