Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Celebrates Homecoming with a Win

PLAINVIEW, NY — The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District recently welcomed hundreds of fans, community members and alumni to enjoy the annual Homecoming parade, football game and halftime show. The day-long celebration began with representatives from all grade levels, accompanied by the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFKHS) marching band, marching their way to the high school football field.

“It’s wonderful to have our students together again for an in-person Homecoming celebration,” said Dr. Mary O’Meara, Superintendent of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District.
“It’s a great tradition to gather our current and former students for an exciting football game, and the banner contest allows our students to show off their creativity for the community to enjoy.”

The parade trail saw students holding banners and marching in order of their respective grades and extracurricular activities. Special guests Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Legislator Arnold Drucker stopped by the celebration to show their support. The POB Hawks varsity football team won Saturday's home conference game against the Uniondale Knights by a score of 35-29. At halftime, the high school band and cheerleaders performed, and the 2021-2022 Homecoming royalty were crowned.

The theme of this year’s Homecoming celebration was villains. Each grade level collaborated to create their own villain-themed banners, with the grade-level winner being crowned at the game’s halftime—but it was the senior Class of 2022 who took home the win with their Star Wars themed Senior Sith Lords banner.
