HICKSVILLE 4TH GRADER WINS ESSAY CONTEST PRIZE

Christopher Sais, a 4th grader at Lee Avenue Elementary School, won third prize in the second annual “Making a Difference” essay contest sponsored by Meadowbrook Women’s Initiative (MWI). This year’s topic was “making my community a better place.” The contest was open to 4th and 5th graders in all Nassau County school districts; Christopher’s winning essay was chosen from more than 350 entries.

Christopher wrote: “There are many ways we can improve my neighborhood, Hicksville to make it a better place. One way we can improve Hicksville is to plant more trees and grow more flowers. This will help the neighborhood have cleaner air, and it will make the neighborhood look nicer. Another way we can improve Hicksville is to have a group of people clean up the litter in the parks and streets. Another way we can improve Hicksville would be to shop at Hicksville stores. That would bring more money into our community, and it will build our community businesses. The last way we can improve Hicksville would be to make an area for a dog run. If we have a special place to bring our dogs, our streets might be cleaner and people would be more careful driving on the roads. The dog run might also help Hicksville residents meet each other. . .”.

Robbie Vitalie, a 4th grader at Seaford Manor Elementary School, in Seaford, won first prize. Aashi Mehta, a 5th grader at Howard B. Maitlin Middle School in Plainview, won second place; Jenna Halpin (5th grade, Locust Valley Intermediate School) and Christopher were tied for 3rd place. Award presentations were made at each school.
