Jacobs and Lavine to Host Hurricane Preparedness Meetings

Two separate meetings will be led by experts in disaster preparedness.

September is National Preparedness Month, and Leg, Judy Jacobs, D-Woodbury, and Assemb. Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove, will host two sessions to boost community awareness about natural disasters – floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires – that can trigger emergency situations.

The seminars, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 6:30-8:30 pm and Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 7-0 pm, will be held at the Jericho Public Library, 1 Merry Lane, in Jericho.

The first Emergency Awareness seminar will be led by the NY National Guard working with experts from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Officer of Emergency Management and Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Attendees will receive a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit.

The second seminar will be led by the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, which will provide the latest information about disaster preparedness in PowerPoint presentation and conduct a question and answer session.
