Submitted by Plainview-Old Bethpage School District.
Plainview-Old Bethpage (POB) John F. Kennedy High School recently announced that 23 students have been selected to perform in the annual New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) All-State Music Conference in Rochester, NY occurring December 4-7, 2014. The high school students are 23 of the 900 students selected from 6,500 applicants in New York State to perform in this annual event that recognizes the selected students as some of the finest musicians in New York State.
“We are so excited and proud to be sending twenty-three students to this prestigious event this year,” said POB Superintendent Lorna Lewis. “We encourage our students to be as dedicated and diligent in the arts as they are in the classroom and are thrilled that these talented students have been recognized for their hard work.”

Each selected student was required to go through a lengthy audition process after being nominated by their music teachers: Jerry Loeb, Glenn Rubin and Adam Paltrowitz. All 23 students were required to audition with a level 6 solo, selected from the NYSSMA repertoire list, for a NYSSMA Certified All-State adjudicator. After earning a score of 98-100, each student was recommended for the All-State process. Plainview-Old Bethpage students were then selected based on teacher and adjudicator recommendations, the candidate’s previous NYSSMA Solo ratings, participation in the previous year’s All-State and participation in other performing organizations.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage students chosen for this year’s All-State Music are: David Gallub, Matthew Leo, Alexandra Baker, David Baker, Amanda Goldstein, Emory Granat, Stephanie Handschu, Ingoo Kang, Grace Kim, Jason Kimmel, Matthew Kurnit, Kristin Lunt, Andrew Miller, Carly Schindler, Jessica Senzer, Natalie Towba, Athina Vrosgou, Courtney Hedgecock, Andrew Kim, Gyuri Lee, Jungmin Lee, Alice Oh, and Michelle Shin.
