Police Identify Driver Killed In Long Island Expressway Crash
BREAKING: Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a cement pillar.

MELVILLE, NY — A Bay Shore man has been identified as the driver killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on the Long Island Expressway in Melville.
Jhonny Barros-Chauca, 47, was driving a 2015 Honda CR-V around 6 a.m. Saturday when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a cement pillar near Half Hollow Road, Suffolk County police said. The driver died at the scene.
The vehicle has been impounded for a safety check, police said.

The crash forced all eastbound lanes to close, according to the state Department of Transportation. Cameras showed bumper-to-bumper traffic about four hour after the crash.
An investigation remains ongoing.

The Saturday crash comes days after a van driver had to be airlifted to a hospital following a crash on the Long Island Expressway near Bagatelle Road in Melville. In that crash, a black van smashed into the back of a box truck near Exit 50, authorities said. The truck had been stopped in traffic and the van became pinned underneath it. The driver had to be removed from the vehicle.
