Nassau Students Win Northwell Health Competition, Apple Watches

The 9th Annual Spark! Challenge gives students to chance to get educated as they explore the many healthcare career options.

UNIONDALE, NY — Several area students are among the winners of Northwell Health's 9th Annual Spark! Challenge.

Students, who learn about the various professions within the healthcare field, work in teams to create posters and videos about the different disciplines.

The Challenge received more than 2,000 11th and 12th-grade students from high schools across Long Island, along with the five boroughs and Westchester.

Winners from Long Island are, in the Best Poster category:

1st Place: Bellmore John F. Kennedy High School – Phlebotomist
2nd Place: Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School – Perioperative Nurse
3rd Place: Sewanhaka High School – Software Engineer

"The SPARK! Challenge gives the next generation of healthcare professionals a glimpse
of the many different types of careers they can pursue," said Maxine Carrington, Northwell’s
senior vice president and chief people officer.

First-place teams won Apple Watches. Second-place teams received Apple Air Pods and third-place finishers were given gift bags.
