Long Island Swim School

Long Island Swim School is the teaching arm of the nationally ranked Long Island Aquatic Club. Our Learn to Swim programs create strong, safe, and confident swimmers for life. With locations in Garden City and Syosset we train over 2,000 children each week at every swim level from Beginner to Olympian. Long Island Swim School offers swim lessons for children ages 2 - 14years old. The main emphasis of our programs is to teach children to swim correctly and develop essential water skills in a relaxed environment. Our goal driven and technique oriented approach is the key to your child's success. Through skill based quality teaching our students develop a joy for learning and a passion for swimming. At Long Island Swim School, we teach children to swim the same way the best in the world do. By using age-appropriate, proven techniques children build real skills in kick, pull, body position, and breath control. Our logical, consistent progression turns every fundamental—whether blowing bubbles or learning butterfly timing—into a building block for efficient, confident swimming. Our professional staff are swimmers and coaches with the knowledge to give your child the skills to achieve more than just water safety. We provide the best foundation possible for success. Girl Scouts Robotics Classes Program

When I first started to teach robotics to elementary school students, I noticed that they were not sure of their abilities and were not comfortable when it came to STEM education. I decided to organize and teach robotics classes to these students to make STEM education accessible to everyone. From the beginning, the program emphasized interactive and hands-on activities rather than traditional teaching methods. I worked with about 15 participants over a period of weeks, helping them design and program simple robots. This allowed them to explore engineering concepts in a creative and engaging way. One of the most rewarding aspects was seeing their confidence grow. At first, they were unsure of their capabilities to learn the material, especially since they had no prior knowledge of it. Yet, as they worked on projects and overcame obstacles, they began taking ownership of their work, working together with others, and taking pride in what they had accomplished. This was not without its own set of challenges, however. It demanded a high level of organization to ensure that robot kits, materials, and schedules were managed effectively. In addition, there was a need to ensure that the content was accessible to a variety of experience levels. Through this process, I was able to develop leadership skills such as communication, flexibility, and mentoring. Working with mentors and administrators at Bethpage High School Robotics helped create a plan for the program’s sustainability. This experience showed me the power of hands-on learning and inspired me to continue creating opportunities for younger students to explore STEM and develop a passion for innovation.

We’re Dragonfly Cares, a group of providers offering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Speech-Language Therapy across Long Island. Our goal is to support children as well as the caregivers around them, while emphasizing community engagement and transparency. Our goal from the start has been to create a supportive network and uplifting environment for the families and therapists we work with. No more one-size fits all models, we provide more and always will. Each group is led by a BCBA and includes 1:1 support from a trained behavior technician. Groups are thoughtfully formed based on each child’s individual needs and skill sets. PLAINVIEW, NY — A Pelham man was arrested after driving drunk the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway early Monday morning, Suffolk Police confirmed. According to police, John Durant, 41, entered the eastbound LIE traveling westbound in a 2007 Nissan Murano at Wicks Road in Brentwood. He then crashed into a 2013 Nissan Altima near Exit 46 in Plainview at about 4 a.m. Durant was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. The extent of his injuries were not released. He will be arraigned at a later date, police said. The driver of the Altima, 24-year-old Fatma Parwana, of Medford, was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released, police said. Durant was charged with DWI and first-degree reckless endangerment. Part of the LIE in Plainview was shut down from about 4:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. due to the crash. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
