Plainview Facing Week-Long Heat Wave

No end in sight here on Long Island; South, U.S. Heartland, have it worse.

The National Weather Service is predicting the current heat wave to continue all through Independence Day week.

While high temperatures on Long Island should top out near 90 through Friday, many parts of the country have it much worse.

1. Monday and Tuesday are expected to be sunny and warm with highs approaching 90, slightly better than the weekend's temperatures. Spotty afternoon storms are possible throughout the week, and the NWS is predicting harsh storms for Long Island on Wednesday, July 4.

2. Experts say people should minimize the amount of time spent outdoors as this weather continues. Strenuous activity could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke rapidly. The trick is to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and wearing lightweight clothing.
