Plainview JFK Students Excel in Siemens Contest

Five Plainview JFK High School students students have been named semifinalists in the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology.

Juniors Nicolette Almer, Mustafa Ansari, Alexander Resnick, Kimia Ziadkhanpour and Senior Hahney Yo were recognized as semifinalists in the competition. Only 322 projects were named semifinalists from among 2,255 submissions nationwide.

"These results represent only the most recent affirmation of the ability and industry of our POB researchers,” said Plainview JFK Research Coordinator Mary Lou O’Donnell. “I am proud and amazed by our students on a daily basis."

The Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology recognizes remarkable talent early on, fostering individual growth for high school students who are willing to challenge themselves through science research. About 24 juniors and seniors from the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District participated in the program.

“This was an impressive number of projects completed by our Research students and I am proud of their achievements,” said POBCSD Superintendent Dr. Lorna Lewis. “This speaks volumes about the energy that the staff and students have put into this endeavor.”
