Plainview-Old Bethpage Book-Tasting
Middle School Students Introduced to Books for Independent Reading

Plainview-Old Bethpage School District’s H.B. Mattlin Middle School students recently participated in a “Book-Tasting.” Students were introduced to new and unique books available to them as part of their independent reading. Ms. Ninavaggi and Mrs. Hernandez’s eighth grade English Language Arts (ELA) classes had four minutes at each table to discover as many books as possible. The “Book-Tasting,” organized and created by interim library media specialist Teri Polis, helped students form a list of books they were interested in reading during the 2015-2016 school year. Her efforts and creativity provided an enriching experience for eighth grade students that encouraged reading during the afterschool hours.
