Plainview-Old Bethpage Fights Against Heart Disease and Stroke

Plainview, N.Y. ― The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District (POBCSD) has accepted the challenge to help fight heart disease and stroke. District members recently participated in the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Long Island Heart Walk. Students, parents, board members, and administration participated to raise approximately $1,500 to benefit the research and prevention of heart disease across Long Island.

The effort was a districtwide initiative put in place by POBCSD’s Parent-Teacher Association, school administrators, local community and Superintendent and AHA Board Member, Dr. Lorna R. Lewis. “As a District, we are committed to supporting our community in any way that we can,” said Dr. Lewis. “The American Heart Association has worked for decades to research and fight heart disease across Long Island and our nation, and we are proud to support this worthy cause.”

The non-competitive, 3-mile walk took place at Jones Beach in Wantagh. In total, Long Island participants raised approximately 70 percent of the AHA’s $650,000 goal for the region. POBJFKHS Honor Society members and cheerleaders greeted participants near the starting line and cheered on the team. Team Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District also received basic CPR training following the walk.
