United Way of Long Island Welcomes Plainview Resident Gregory May to its Board of Directors

United Way of Long Island recently elected Plainview resident Gregory A. May to its Board of Directors. May has 9 years of experience working in local government. He currently serves as the Nassau County Taxi and Limousine Commissioner and is an adjunct professor at Molloy College. May participated in United Way of Long Island’s inaugural class of “Project Blueprint,” a program that develops the skills necessary for millennials to become valuable members of boards and committees.
Prior to his post as Commissioner, May was the Director of Legislative Affairs in the Office of Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano where he managed the legislative process, multi-department projects, and drafted legislation as requested by the County Executive or Chief Deputy County Executive. He was also previously a Legislative Aide in the Long Island Region Office of the New York State Minority Leader Brian Kolb, and a Legislative Aide in the Office of Assemblyman Rob Walker. He has served as a research assistant for several professors and Deans at C.W. Post campus of Long Island University. May Co-Chairs the Nassau Nonprofit Taskforce, which was formed in 2011 to work to improve the County’s interactions with the nonprofit community.
In accepting his appointment, May commented, “I am honored to expand my involvement in supporting United Way of Long Island. The United Way board and staff have a unique understanding of what hot button human service issues need to be addressed and then deliver with compassionate programs to address the need.”
May received a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, NY, and he is a member of the Pi Gamma Mu honor society. He currently resides in Plainview with his wife, Kara Guy.
