Plainview Students Rehearse With Guest Musicians

Students take master class from Eastern Standard Ensemble.

Submitted by Plainview-Old Bethpage Schools

Student musicians from Plainview Old-Bethpage School District’s H.B. Mattlin Middle School, Plainview Old-Bethpage Middle School and John F. Kennedy High School recently participated in a master class with the Eastern Standard Ensemble. The students played selected pieces for expert feedback and listened to the trio’s musical demonstrations. The ensemble, a trio of faculty members from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Music Department, worked with small groups of students throughout the day to help them improve playing technique as well as offer expert critique. The trio includes Dr. Heidi Lucas, Dr. Zach Collins and Dr. Jacob Ertl.

The Eastern Standard Ensemble is actively involved in promoting literature for this instrumentation through performance and pursuit of commissioning projects. After learning from the musicians, students attended a free concert featuring the Eastern Standard Ensemble. The master class and concert gave students a unique opportunity to learn from musicians from a local and professional ensemble.
