Police: Man Drove Drunk With 3 Children in the Car in Plainview

The 28-year-old was driving on the LIE without any lights on Sunday night, police said.

A Hempstead man was arrested after police said he drove drunk with his three children in the car in Plainview on Sunday night.

Authorities conducted a car stop after they noticed there was a vehicle traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway, near exit 46, without any lights on at 10:35 p.m., police said.

According to authorities, Carlos A. Sanchez, 28, was driving without a license and was under the influence of alcohol with his two sons, ages 6 and 3, and 1-year-old daughter in the car. Police said the 3-year-old son was not restrained in a child safety seat.

A family member came to the scene to pick up the children. No injuries were reported.

Sanchez was arrested without incident and was charged with three counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, DWI, passenger under 10 without restraint, unlicensed operator and driving with insufficient lights.

He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
