PRIDE-filled Week in Plainview-Old Bethpage

Middle School Students Perform Acts of Kindness to Celebrate PRIDE

Plainview-Old Bethpage School District’s H.B. Mattlin Middle School students recently celebrated P.R.I.D.E. Week (Personal best, Respect, Impulse Control, Decision making and Empathy.) Students participate in a week of activities that capture the character of the school and help build leadership and teamwork skills. PRIDE week aims to build a sense of camaraderie and spirit among the students.

Students in the fifth through eighth grades are divided into two teams and are challenged to perform certain acts of kindness to gain points. Each team participates in dress-up days throughout the week including dressing in team colors, wearing a favorite hero shirt, pajamas, sport team and finally their PRIDE shirt. At the week’s end, students compete in “PRIDE Night.” Teams compete in multiple events to win points for their team including, “Minute to Win It,” “Hula Hoop Chain Game,” “Over/Under” and a “three-legged challenge.” The winning team is announced at the conclusion of the evening.
