Plainview, N.Y. —Recently, the Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.) Club at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School held its annual fall Blood Drive for students and faculty.

The S.A.D.D. executive board, along with their advisor, Vanessa Jackson, worked tirelessly to make this event a success, far surpassing their collection goal. They spread the word about the drive weeks in advance, scheduled appointment times, coordinated with the NY Blood Center and had plenty of snacks and drinks on hand for volunteers.

According to the New York Blood Center, the blood drives held twice a year at John F. Kennedy High School are two of their most successful high school events on Long Island. This year was no exception with 106 students donating a pint of blood each, saving over 300 lives. Many staff members also led by example, donating alongside their students.

“It was one of the strongest fall showings in some years,” said Vanessa Jackson, S.A.D.D. Club Advisor. “We are already looking forward to our annual spring Blood Drive when even more students will meet the age requirement for blood donation.”
