Girl Scouts Robotics Classes Program

When I first started to teach robotics to elementary school students, I noticed that they were not sure of their abilities and were not comfortable when it came to STEM education. I decided to organize and teach robotics classes to these students to make STEM education accessible to everyone. From the beginning, the program emphasized interactive and hands-on activities rather than traditional teaching methods. I worked with about 15 participants over a period of weeks, helping them design and program simple robots. This allowed them to explore engineering concepts in a creative and engaging way. One of the most rewarding aspects was seeing their confidence grow. At first, they were unsure of their capabilities to learn the material, especially since they had no prior knowledge of it. Yet, as they worked on projects and overcame obstacles, they began taking ownership of their work, working together with others, and taking pride in what they had accomplished. This was not without its own set of challenges, however. It demanded a high level of organization to ensure that robot kits, materials, and schedules were managed effectively. In addition, there was a need to ensure that the content was accessible to a variety of experience levels. Through this process, I was able to develop leadership skills such as communication, flexibility, and mentoring. Working with mentors and administrators at Bethpage High School Robotics helped create a plan for the program’s sustainability. This experience showed me the power of hands-on learning and inspired me to continue creating opportunities for younger students to explore STEM and develop a passion for innovation.

Dragonfly Cares

We’re Dragonfly Cares, a group of providers offering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Speech-Language Therapy across Long Island. Our goal is to support children as well as the caregivers around them, while emphasizing community engagement and transparency. Our goal from the start has been to create a supportive network and uplifting environment for the families and therapists we work with. No more one-size fits all models, we provide more and always will. Each group is led by a BCBA and includes 1:1 support from a trained behavior technician. Groups are thoughtfully formed based on each child’s individual needs and skill sets. It’s a wonderful opportunity for your child to build social skills, communication, and more—all in a fun and supportive environment! The Aug. 24 event at the Pickle Club will teach nuances of pickleball from medical professionals. The three indoor, air-conditioned courts will each feature certified instructors. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity for some medical knowledge from footwear tips to dietary tips. Blood pressure screenings are also being provided. A $20 refundable fee to required.
