Students "Meet" Pen Pals in France Via Skype
French Language Learning Students Had Opportunity to Converse with French Students

The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District’s Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School recently organized an opportunity for its students in French language classes to speak with students in France via Skype and practice their skills. Madame Roehrig’s seventh and eighth grade classes spent the last year exchanging letters with middle school pen pals in France, and now were finally able to put a face to the name.
While Plainview students practiced their French skills, they were also given the opportunity to help teach their French pen pals about the English language.
The activity was intended to give students a chance to broaden their horizons by learning more about students of the same age who are living in another country. The students asked questions, such as, “How do you spend your free time?” and “What is school like in France?” which helped the students better understand the similarities and differences between the two cultures.
