Girl Scouts Robotics Classes Program

When I first started to teach robotics to elementary school students, I noticed that they were not sure of their abilities and were not comfortable when it came to STEM education. I decided to organize and teach robotics classes to these students to make STEM education accessible to everyone. From the beginning, the program emphasized interactive and hands-on activities rather than traditional teaching methods. I worked with about 15 participants over a period of weeks, helping them design and program simple robots. This allowed them to explore engineering concepts in a creative and engaging way. One of the most rewarding aspects was seeing their confidence grow. At first, they were unsure of their capabilities to learn the material, especially since they had no prior knowledge of it. Yet, as they worked on projects and overcame obstacles, they began taking ownership of their work, working together with others, and taking pride in what they had accomplished. This was not without its own set of challenges, however. It demanded a high level of organization to ensure that robot kits, materials, and schedules were managed effectively. In addition, there was a need to ensure that the content was accessible to a variety of experience levels. Through this process, I was able to develop leadership skills such as communication, flexibility, and mentoring. Working with mentors and administrators at Bethpage High School Robotics helped create a plan for the program’s sustainability. This experience showed me the power of hands-on learning and inspired me to continue creating opportunities for younger students to explore STEM and develop a passion for innovation.

With locations in Garden City and Syosset we train over 2,000 children each week at every swim level from Beginner to Olympian. We’re Dragonfly Cares, a group of providers offering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Speech-Language Therapy across Long Island. Our goal is to support children as well as the caregivers around them, while emphasizing community engagement and transparency. Our goal from the start has been to create a supportive network and uplifting environment for the families and therapists we work with. No more one-size fits all models, we provide more and always will. Each group is led by a BCBA and includes 1:1 support from a trained behavior technician. Groups are thoughtfully formed based on each child’s individual needs and skill sets. It’s a wonderful opportunity for your child to build social skills, communication, and more—all in a fun and supportive environment! Wheeler-Brown’s book explores the history of Delftware ceramics, focusing on the often-overlooked roles of women as makers, patrons, and collectors, from 17th-century factory owners like&nbsp;Barbara Rotteveel&nbsp;to Gilded Age collectors like&nbsp;Mrs. J. Pierpont Morgan. A must for devotees of decorative arts and the history of material culture. 
Location: The award-winning Jay Estate Gardens designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz. Co-Chairs, Tracy Edwards, Liz Garrett, Emmy Lambert, Lindsay Bello Martin and Suzanne Clary.

GENEVIEVE WHEELER BROWN
Founding Genevieve Wheeler Decorative Art Advisory in 2003, Genevieve comes to the advisory business with more than 12 years of experience in the auction world, strong generalist knowledge and a wide range of contacts in American, European and Asian decorative and fine arts.
Genevieve began her career with Christie’s in 1992 with the European Decorative Arts Department after working as an intern at The Phillips Collection, Washington D.C. in 1990. She was then asked to run Overseas Consignments at Christie’s Park Avenue, a department that handled inquiries for European based auctions including Indian and Southeast Asian art, Islamic Art, Miniatures, Textiles and Cameras. In 1995 Genevieve became the New York contact for sales of Fabergé and Russian Silver at Christie’s Park Avenue and most recently was as a specialist in Fine Musical Instruments at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from 1998 to 2003.
While at Christie’s, she was involved with important sales such as ‘The Pine Cone Egg’ by Carl Fabergé and ‘The Taft’ Stradivari which fetched the auction record for an instrument sold in the United States. She has also been an appraiser on the PBS production ‘The Antiques Roadshow’.
A supporter of several fine and decorative art related institutions, Genevieve has served on the Board of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York, served as a member of the Young Fellows Steering Committee of the Frick Collection from 1995 to 2005 and co-Chaired the Winter Antiques Show Young Collector’s Night, New York in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Genevieve currently advises several organizations including <a href="https://www.dumbartonhouse.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dumbarton House</a>, a Federal period house museum in Georgetown, as a board member as well as for <a href="https://www.thewintershow.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">The Winter Show</a> as a vice-chair of Opening Night and as co-founder of The Winter Show Luncheon.About The Jay Heritage Center
