Voter's Guide: Bethpage School Budget, Board Election

What you need to know for election day.

Bethpage residents will vote on the school district’s $82,151,583 proposed budget for the 2016-17 school year on Tuesday, May 17.

The proposal calls for a 1.17 percent increase in spending over the current year and a 0.17 percent tax levy decrease, which is within the state’s tax cap.

Six candidates are running for three open seats on the Bethpage Board of Education.

Candidates include:

Seat 1:

  • Kurt Spears
  • Gene Mertz

Seat 2:

  • Marie Swierkowski
  • Matthew J. Hanley

Seat 3:

  • John Lonardo
  • Ronald Paola

Residents are able to vote from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Bethpage High School, located at 10 Cherry Ave.
