Voters Reject $114 Million Bonds For Plainview-Old Bethpage Schools

The district said they'll "discuss next steps and continue to keep the community updated."

PLAINVIEW, NY — Residents in the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District voted down a pair of bond propositions on Tuesday.

Proposition No. 1 was defeated 2,513 to 1,363, while Prop. No. 2 was rejected 2,585 to 1,244.

It was a combined bond package of $114 million, which would have increased homeowner's property taxes, on average, by more than $500 per year, Newsday said.

The district said Tuesday's turnout was "one of the highest participation rates in recent history."

As for the defeat of each bond proposition, "The Board of Education will discuss next steps and continue to keep the community updated."
