Here are some things people should have available to safely get through the storm.

With what many are calling a “record” snowfall for the New York area in the next few days, here are some things people should have available to safely get through the storm.

In their emergency preparations and first aid kits, people should have plenty of Motrin and Tylenol on hand in anticipation of any slips or falls, says Michael Guttenberg, DO, director of emergency medicine at Forest Hills Hospital.

Alan Kaplan, MD, director of emergency medicine at Plainview Hospital, suggests people have three days worth of food that does not need to be heated, ample water supply,blankets, a battery-operated radio, flashlights and batteries in preparation for this snowstorm.

People who take medications should try to have their supply for the next few days prepared. And in case there is a loss of power, all necessary electronic devices should be fully charged.
