MOUNT PLEASANT, NY — A fiery crash on the Sprain has left one person dead.
The New York State Police say that on Tuesday, around 6:30 p.m., troopers from Hawthorne were dispatched to the area of mile marker 10.4, on the southbound Sprain Brook Parkway, in the town of Mount Pleasant, after receiving a report of a two-car vehicle collision involving a vehicle fire.
Investigators say a 2023 Toyota, driven by 31-year-old Michael C. Dilello, of East Fishkill, was traveling south in the left lane when it was sideswiped by a 2025 Honda traveling in the center lane.
State police say that after the collision, the Honda left the roadway, entered the center grass median, and hit a support pillar of the Grasslands Road overpass before becoming engulfed in flames.
Dilello was not injured and was released. Police say the identity of the Honda driver is being withheld pending autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing, according to state police.
