Catholic Churches In Port Chester Merge
Financial strains and declining attendance contributed to the reason.
PORT CHESTER, NY — A reorganization of Port Chester’s four Catholic parishes that began in 2015 came to close this week. The Archdiocese of New York, citing financial strains and falling attendance, consolidated four churches into two.
Sacred Heart of Jesus was merged with Our Lady of Mercy; Corpus Christi, into Our Lady of the Rosary, the Journal News said.
The new parish will continue to offer masses in English, Spanish, Polish and Portuguese, though not as frequently.
