Drivers Didn't Heed Warnings About Holiday DWI Checkpoints: PCPD
Among the 5 arrests for driving under the influence on Wed., was a motorist who drove his car into a tree before the checkpoint opened.
PORT CHESTER, NY — Despite warnings about a crackdown on drunken driving and even giving advance notice about a sobriety enforcement checkpoint, a few holiday revelers were determined to put the promise from Westchester County and Port Chester Police to the test.
Early Thanksgiving morning, the Port Chester Police Department and Westchester County police set up a sobriety checkpoint in the village. Far from being a surprise, police officials went out of their way to publicize the planned crackdown.
It seems not everyone got the word.

Before the checkpoint was even set up, a holiday reveler drove into a tree, police said. The driver fled the scene, according to officials, but was found and arrested.
In all, five people were charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

"Unfortunately, this is not the result we wanted, we were hoping for people to heed our warnings and be responsible," Port Chester police said in a release announcing the results of the special holiday enforcement campaign. "We will continue this increased enforcement during this holiday season, in hopes of making our streets safer."
