More details have emerged on the Port Chester Police drug investigation that led to the suspect hitting a police car before leading police on a high-speed chase through the streets of Byram that ended in the parking lot of Hamilton Avenue School Friday night.
Port Chester police received a tip that a “particular car would be coming into town to do a drug sale” of heroin and cocaine, said Port Chester Lt. Jeffrey Hartrey. Detectives and other police were at the Waterfront parking lot near Petco on Waterfront Place about 7:40 p.m. when police spotted the car and tried to block it in, according to Hartrey.

“The car took off, hit one of our cars. No one was hurt, thank God. Two units gave chase through several streets in Port Chester” before heading onto Delavan Avenue and Ritch Avenue West, Hartrey said.
“It was really at a high rate of speed and the officers felt it wasn’t safe, so they called off the chase,” Hartrey said. “A Port Chester police vehicle was in the area of St. Roch’s Church when someone flagged them down and said that a white Nissan almost hit them and went into the parking lot.” Hartrey did not have information on how fast the suspect was driving before the chase ended.

Officers found the white Nissan but the male driver had fled on foot. A female passenger was still inside the car. In an attempt to find the unidentified man, police called in the Westchester County Police Department’s helicopter unit that hovered over Greenwich neighborhoods.
“We towed the car to headquarters and the female passenger was not very cooperative, so she was released.” A drug-sniffing K-9 unit also was called in but did not find any drugs in the Nissan, Hartrey said
According to Hartrey, the car is registered to a woman who lives in the Bronx, NY.

A drug investigation by Port Chester Police led to a motor vehicle pursuit Friday evening that ended in the Chickahominy neighborhood of Greenwich after the suspect abandoned his car and fled on foot, according to police.
Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said in a statement, “Earlier (Friday) evening the Port Chester Police Department was conducting a drug investigation within their jurisdiction. The subject of that investigation engaged the Port Chester Police Department in a motor vehicle pursuit. That pursuit terminated in our jurisdiction in the area of Hamilton Avenue School. At that point the suspect abandoned his motor vehicle and fled on foot.”
The Port Chester Police Department called for assistance from the Westchester County Aviation Unit and K-9 Unit as well as the Greenwich Police Department. The agencies were unable to find the suspect who escaped about 6:30 p.m., according to Gray.
“Our best understanding is that this suspect is not necessarily a danger to the community,” said Gray, who referred questions to Port Chester Police.
Port Chester Police were not immediately available for comment Saturday morning.
