Port Chester High School Participates in 'NOH8' Campaign
The event, which stands for "No Hate," will take place Tuesday at the school.
The Port Chester High School Student Senate is hosting an NOH8 Day at the school on Tuesday, officials announced.
NOH8 stands for “no hate,” and starting at 7:30 a.m., students can have their face or arm painted with the NOH8 logo to show that they are taking a stand against hate.
“The goal of the Student Senate is not only to promote equality but also to show that as a student body and staff we tolerate acceptance for all,” said Stacey Wolff, co-advisor to the Student Senate.

In addition, all staff and students were asked to wear a white top and jeans to school on Tuesday. Students who participate by taking a stand with face or arm paint are invited to go to the library, where a photo booth has been set up. The photo booth will be there for the first six periods of the day and it will capture images of students and staff. The images will be used to compile a poster that will be hung in the school at a later date.
The PCHS NOH8 Campaign was proposed by PCHS senior Leslie Salcedo. The Student Senate submitted an application to the national NOH8 Campaign office and was approved as a site to host an NOH8 day.

Art students in Mr. Dan Castillo’s Art classes and Ms. Cassolino’s Computer Art class created posters that will be hung in the hallways and digital art will featured on the TV screen in the main hallway.
The NOH8 Campaign is a national charitable organization whose mission is to promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest. NOH8 campaigns are a photographic silent protest that began five years ago in California. They feature photographs of people – celebrities, politicians and people from all walks of life – with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced. For safety reasons, the PCHS NOH8 Campaign will not include the use of duct tape across the mouth.
