Port Chester, Rye Brook Hire Mediator in Firefighter Dispute

The agreement with Rye Brook said a professional firefighter would cover the firehouse during the overnight hours.

PORT CHESTER, NY — A mediator has been engaged to bring a dispute between the villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester to an end.

The Village of Rye Brook has spent about $85,000 paying firefighters to work the overnight shift since Port Chester eliminated all paid fire personnel May 2, FIOS1 News said.

Part of the inter-municipal agreement with Port Chester calls for Rye Brook to have a professional firefighter at its firehouse from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. That ended when the Port Chester village board got rid of the paid positions to save money.
