Port Chester Students Inducted In English, Art Honor Societies
Requirements include maintaining a specific grade average in certain subjects.

PORT CHESTER, NY — Thirty-four students at Port Chester High School were inducted into the National English (NEHS) or Art (NASH) Honor Societies Dec. 5. According to English teacher Barry Backelman, to be inducted into the NEHS, a student must be a junior or senior who has taken an upper level English class the prior year with at least a 90 average and a GPA of at least 80. They must also write a 250-300 word essay about an English teacher who has impacted the student.
Juniors or seniors are eligible to participate in NAHS if they maintain an 88 average in an art course or art courses that they have taken and an 80 overall average in school. Students throughout the year participate in functions related to arts in our school community, said Kathleen Barnett, the NAHS advisor.
Every fall students submit applications and their grades are evaluated for membership.
