Port Chester Voters Decide Fate of $41.5M School Expansion Project

Residents took to the polls on Tuesday.

According to unofficial results, Port Chester residents Tuesday voted down a proposed $41.5 million bonding measure that would have paid for expansion of the high school and other upgrade and renovation projects.

A total of 994 ballots were cast against the plan, and 655 in favor.

The vote marked the second time this month that a community turned down a school bond issue. New Rochelle voters turned down a $50 million bond measure on Dec. 15.

Port Chester’s project called for the construction of an addition that would have added more than a dozen new classrooms, science rooms and music rooms to the high school, and improvements to the district’s other schools.
