Rye Brook Issues Reminder About Leaf Collection

Residents need to keep foreign items out of leaf piles, for the safety of employees and equipment.

RYE BROOK, NY — With the late falling leaves this fall, the Village of Rye Brook wants to remind residents about the curbside leaf pickup service that started Oct. 1. Leaves should be placed in tight wind rows, a maximum of 4 feet wide, along the center of the curb line.

Leaves should not block any storm drains because it can cause street flooding.

The possibility of snow would further complicate matters.

If it does snow, the plows will need to push any leaves in the street back onto the properties to open up the roads for safe travel.

Village officials said foreign items have been found in leaf piles. Not only can such items seriously harm village employees, but they can also damage equipment which can, in turn, slow operations.

Any yard debris — such as branches, logs, grass, rocks, plastics and other foreign items — should be removed from the leaf piles.
