$5K In Cash 'Wrapped Like Present' In Scam Intercepted In Suffolk: PD
The money was mailed to a Coram address by a 79-year-old Pennsylvania woman duped in the scam, Suffolk police said.
CORAM, NY — Five thousand dollars in cash wrapped up like a present and mailed to a Coram address by a 79-year-old Pennsylvania woman who was duped in a scam was intercepted by detectives Tuesday, Suffolk police said.
The package was intercepted around 11:40 a.m.
The package was sent by the Olyphant, Pennsylvania, woman, who told investigators she sent the money after receiving a call telling her to send the cash to an address in Coram, according to police.

She did not disclose the nature of the conversation or why the caller said she needed to send the money, police said, adding that the money will be returned to her.

Detectives are asking anyone who believes they may be the victim of a scam or have information about a scam to call the Financial Crimes Unit at 631-852-6821.
