In a heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the music department of Earl L. Vandermeulen High School delivered a poignant performance during the Port Jefferson Fire Department’s annual 9/11 memorial service. The moving event, held at the Port Jefferson Firehouse, was marked by an evocative rendition of patriotic and solemn music, reflecting the day’s profound significance.

Under the leadership of Dr. Michael Caravello, Director of Music and Fine Arts, the students of Earl L. Vandermeulen High School performed a stirring selection that included The Star-Spangled Banner, “Taps,” and “God Bless America.” Each piece was rendered with exceptional sensitivity and reverence, capturing the spirit of unity and remembrance that defines Patriot Day.
“The performance was not just a musical presentation but a heartfelt gesture of respect and remembrance,” said Dr. Caravello. “Our students understand the importance of honoring the memory of those who perished on, and the heroes of, 9/11, and they approached their roles with the utmost dedication and emotional depth. It was an honor to be part of such a significant occasion.”

The Port Jefferson Fire Department’s memorial service provided a solemn backdrop for the high school’s performance, which was met with a deeply appreciative audience. The collaboration between Earl L. Vandermeulen High School’s music department and the Port Jefferson Fire Department underscores the importance of community and remembrance. The ceremony not only honored the memory of the 9/11 victims but also served as a testament to the enduring spirit of resilience and solidarity.
