Students from the Port Jefferson School District were recognized for their creativity and environmental stewardship at this year’s Port Jefferson Village Arbor Day Celebration.
Students in grades K–5 were awarded certificates for earning first place in the Port Jefferson Village Poster Contest, showcasing their artistic talents and commitment to environmental awareness.
The event also featured inspiring presentations from student leaders. Seventh-grade Poet Laureate Michael Viggiano and sixth-grade Poet Laureate Maya Von Oiste recited original poems celebrating the beauty and importance of trees. Fifth-grade Student Government President Cecilia Wilches delivered remarks highlighting the vital role trees play in supporting the environment and strengthening the community.
As part of the celebration, native trees were distributed to attendees, encouraging ongoing stewardship and sustainability efforts. The ceremony concluded with the planting of a White Oak tree, symbolizing growth, resilience, and the community’s shared commitment to preserving natural resources. The Port Jefferson School District extends its sincere thanks to the Tree Committee and all those who contributed to making this year’s Arbor Day celebration such a meaningful and memorable event.
