STONY BROOK, NY — Third Eye Blind will be coming to Stony Brook in June at the World Cup Watch Experience, Governor Hochul announced.
The popular San Francisco band will be the special musical guest at the free New York State United - 2026 World Cup Watch Experience on June 12 at Stony Brook University.
Third Eye Blind will take the stage at 8 p.m., ahead of the USA vs Paraguay (Group D) World Cup match at 9 p.m.
Along with the performance and World Cup match, folks can partake in interactive soccer activities, face painting, giveaways, games, photo opportunities, and more. Some of the event programming will also recognize local schools and soccer coaches.
"The World Cup is an opportunity to bring people together across communities, cultures, and generations, and New York is making sure families across our state can be part of that experience," Governor Hochul said.
This event is part of a larger project to bring the excitement of larger global events and sports to local communities. Viewing events, such as the June 12 event, is related to the New York State Community World Cup Grant Program. This program is a $500,000 grannt to ensure the 2026 FIFA World Cup is celebrated throughout NYS with locally-led viewing events, aiming to lead to economic growth with local businesses. These events also tie into Governor Hochul's Get Offline, Get Outside initiative, which aims to encourage residents to put down their phones and spend time outside with their neighbors and local communities.
"This free World Cup Watch Experience is about creating an accessible, high-energy destination where New Yorkers can come together to celebrate one of the world's biggest sporting events close to home," Empire State Development President, CEO, and Commissioner Hope Knight said.
The daytime watch experience will begin at 1 p.m., and the first match will kick off at 3 p.m. (Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina.)
